Amboseli National Park, which lies on the border with Tanzania, is renowned for its spectacular scenery as well as its game viewing opportunities. From this reserve you can see Mount Kenya and the park itself protects a variety of habitats including open plains, woodland and swamps. A diverse array of creatures call Amboseli home, but the stars of the show are undoubtedly the elephants, with this park having a strong population of pachyderms.

Hit the beach
While a safari on the plains may be a traditional way to observe Kenya's wildlife, when you reach the coast you'll discover there are other ways to connect with nature. In fact, the country is home to several marine national parks that preserve the stunning environment beneath the waves.

The Mombasa Marine Reserve is the closest one to the city, but you can also reach the Malindi Marine Park and Reserve if you choose to stay in this coastal region. Both are outstanding places for snorkelling and scuba diving, with all manner of colourful creatures living in the stunning coral reefs.

If you'd prefer to really relax during your time in Mombasa, head to one of the picturesque stretches of white sand that run along the coastline.
